Anne Krocak and her company Phoenix Designs creates community art in Minneapolis and the surrounding metro area. She has created public artworks with individuals of all ages and abilities that are displayed throughout Minnesota, and her pieces include clay, glass, mosaics, concrete, paint, and sculpture. As a teaching artist, she offers classes and art residencies to people with and without disabilities, and she has worked with VSA Minnesota for over seven years doing public art/mosaic residencies and last year joined COMPAS and MnCAAN. She has created and worked with programs for seniors, school age, and adults and is working to strengthen programing and access to the arts to everyone. This year she received a Teaching Artist Fellowship from VSA International - a affiliate of the Kennedy Center in D.C..

Krocak has a BFA in Fine Arts and a Masters Degree in Art Education, Special Education. After 23 years of living with multiple sclerosis she understands facing difficulties head on and finding ways around problems instead of letting them stop you, ‘I believe in bringing out the best in the communities and individuals I work with allowing them to focus on what they can do instead of any perceived limitations.”

Public Art
As a public artist, I work with communities to create large, interactive, abstract, yet functional concrete sculptures, such as benches. Mosaic designs made of glass, commercial and handmade ceramic tiles are then attached to the surface of the sculptures. Working with groups from a community, we become a catalyst for change. Starting with the collaborative process, through research and development we work together to create design process and final work of art, which units the group and opens a dialogue between the ideas of the individual contributors and the community at large.mailto:annekrocak@aol.comshapeimage_6_link_0
